What is GST Registration?

Goods and Services Tax (GST) is India's unified indirect tax on the supply of goods and services. Every business whose aggregate annual turnover exceeds ₹40 lakh (goods) or ₹20 lakh (services) must register for GST and obtain a GSTIN (GST Identification Number).

GST registration is not merely a compliance requirement — it is a business necessity. Without GSTIN, you cannot charge GST on invoices, claim Input Tax Credit (ITC) on purchases, supply to GST-registered businesses who need input credit, list on major e-commerce platforms, or participate in government tenders. A GSTIN also signals business credibility and professionalism to customers and partners.

VITTAX handles the complete registration process: preparing all documents, filing the application on the GST portal, responding to any notice from the GST officer (clarification/rejection), and obtaining the GSTIN Certificate within 1–3 working days of application. We also guide you on the correct GST category (regular, composition, or voluntary registration) based on your business model.

⚠️ Without GSTIN, you cannot claim ITC, list on e-commerce platforms, or participate in government tenders.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is GST registration free?

Yes — there is no government fee for GST registration. VITTAX's service fee covers professional preparation, filing, and follow-up to ensure first-time approval.

Can I register voluntarily even if my turnover is below the threshold?

Yes — voluntary GST registration is permitted. It allows you to issue GST invoices, claim ITC on purchases, and supply to registered businesses who need input credit. Recommended if your customers are GST-registered businesses.

What is the Composition Scheme and who should opt for it?

The Composition Scheme allows small businesses (turnover up to ₹1.5 crore) to pay GST at a flat rate (1–5%) on turnover instead of the standard rate, with simplified quarterly filing. However, composition dealers cannot charge GST on invoices or claim ITC. Best suited for small retailers and manufacturers supplying to end consumers.

Do I need GST registration if I only sell on Amazon or Flipkart?

Yes — e-commerce sellers must register for GST regardless of turnover, as e-commerce marketplaces are required to collect TCS (Tax Collected at Source) from registered sellers. Unregistered sellers cannot supply through e-commerce operators.

What if my application is rejected?

VITTAX responds to all officer queries within the stipulated time. If an application is rejected, we reapply immediately after identifying and resolving the reason for rejection. Our first-time approval rate is above 97%.
