What is Udyam / MSME Registration?

Udyam Registration (formerly Udyog Aadhaar) is a government registration for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) under the MSMED Act, 2006. Since July 2020, all MSMEs must register on the Udyam Registration Portal (udyamregistration.gov.in) using PAN and Aadhaar. The registration is free, paperless, and based on self-declaration — the system auto-fetches GST and IT return data.

An MSME is classified as Micro (investment up to ₹1 Cr and turnover up to ₹5 Cr), Small (investment up to ₹10 Cr and turnover up to ₹50 Cr), or Medium (investment up to ₹50 Cr and turnover up to ₹250 Cr). Udyam registration helps businesses avail lower interest loans, subsidies, protection against delayed payments, and various government schemes.

Udyam registration unlocks a wide range of benefits — priority sector lending, collateral-free loans (CGTMSE), government tender preferences (up to 25% procurement reserved for MSMEs), delayed payment protection (MSME Samadhaan), and various state government subsidies.

⚠️ Benefits under new government schemes are linked only to Udyam-registered entities — old Udyog Aadhaar holders must migrate.
